Lawsuit filed against Michigan DNR to allow drone use in recovery of deer

An Ohio-based drone company is suing the Michigan DNR over its interpretation of state law that officials claim prohibits drone use to recover downed deer.
Drone Deer Recovery filed a federal civil rights lawsuit over a state law enacted in 2015 that bans drone use in the “taking” of an animal. The same law bans drone use to harass hunters, as well.
“Ultimately, this is a First Amendment free speech case,” Andrew Quinio, attorney with the Pacific Legal Foundation, told Michigan Outdoor News.

Steelhead limit reduced on several Michigan streams

A one-fish steelhead limit will be imposed year-round for steelhead anglers fishing on several Lake Michigan streams beginning April 1, 2024. A zero-fish limit for wild steelhead also will be enforced on the Pere Marquette River.
Wild steelhead are defined as fish that have their adipose fins intact and not clipped. For management purposes, hatchery fish have their adipose fins clips to identify them. Those changes were approved unanimously by the state Natural Resources Commission at its meeting earlier this month in Lansing.

Notes off a soiled cuff: Plenty of similarities between Pennsylvania and Wisconsin when it comes to deer hunting

When it comes to deer hunting, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin are a lot alike. Both states have long, rich traditions, huge deer herds and hundreds of thousands of avid, dedicated hunters.
And, unfortunately, both states have chronic wasting disease spreading in their deer herds as well as rapidly aging and shrinking hunter numbers.

Pennsylvania’s Weiser State Forest good deer hunting destination

If your idea of public forests is tens of thousands, or maybe even hundreds of thousands, or unbroken acres, this isn’t that.
Though not the smallest state forest in Pennsylvania, Weiser State Forest is far from being the biggest either. It takes in about 30,000 acres in what’s considered the “ridge and valley” region of eastern Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania Mixed Bag: State Rep. to introduce alligator bill

A Pennsylvania state representative plans to introduce legislation in response to the recent alligator sightings across Pennsylvania over the last few months.

The proposed legislation would increase fines and strengthen penalties for the release of exotic animals, such as alligators, crocodiles, poisonous snakes and mammals “which may be dangerous to the public safety or to our own native wild animals and birds,” according to a memorandum.
