Lake Champlain Institute in New York secures funding for programs, new vessel

The Lake Champlain Research Institute (LCRI) has secured roughly $2 million in grants for several projects, including ongoing monitoring of the lake and a brand new custom research vessel. Established in 1996, the institute studies Lake Champlain and its ecosystems while supporting undergraduate and graduate research.

New York Mixed Bag: Deer escapes from St. Lawrence County captive deer facility

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Region 6 announced that a white-tailed deer recently escaped from a facility in the town of Gouverneur, St. Lawrence County. The deer is marked with ear tags and DEC is asking residents and hunters that observe or take a deer with ear tags in this township or the surrounding area to contact DEC’s Watertown Wildlife office at 315-785-2263.
