Former Ohio DNR officer gets prison for shooting at Clermont home

A former ODNR natural resources officer was sentenced to prison for shooting both of his parents in early March.
Austin Snyder, 25, pleaded guilty to felonious assault for shooting his parents inside their Clermont County home. Both of the parents survived and were in the courtroom two weeks ago when Snyder was sentenced to seven to nine years in prison.

Small-game seasons getting underway in Ohio

Several small game seasons are well underway already in the Buckeye State, and more – plus furbearer seasons – are beginning soon.
And, there’s already been an early gun season for deer in the Disease Surveillance Area (DSA) of Hardin, Marion, and Wyandot counties. That hunt was held Oct. 7-9. Bow season within the DSA started early, on Sept. 9, and runs through the end of archery season on Feb. 4, 2024.

Ohio congressman David Joyce behind crucial bird act

In an era of open and hostile sniping by the country’s two major political parties, it seems that birds can nest them together for a common cause.
A quartet of U.S. Representatives – two Democrats and two Republicans (including one from Ohio) are trying to shepherd the reauthorization of Migratory Birds of the Americas Conservation Enhancements Act of 2023 to take flight. According to the American Bird Conservancy, the Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation Act, as it is officially called and short-handed to NMBCA, is “a federal grants program for conserving migratory birds across the Americas.”

Ohio officer Lee Van Allen earns prestigious honor from Shikar-Safari Club International

Thirty years of service to Ohio’s outdoor enthusiasts earned Lee Van Allen the 2023 Wildlife Officer of the Year Award from Shikar-Safari Club International.
The club selects one officer in each of the 50 states for the distinction annually, said Kandy Klosterman, chief of law enforcement for the ODNR Division of Wildlife.
