Bear hunting in Minnesota can be feast or famine.
Some years, nature offers bruins a smorgasbord of food options such as blueberries, hazelnuts, and acorns. Other years, those attractive goodies are unavailable to bears, and the critters visit hunters’ bait sites with regularity, increasing those hunters’ chances of tagging one of the forest beasts. My favorite bear hunts have occurred during those seasons during which bears munched wildly on native chow and largely ignored sweet bait offerings.

After Supreme Court curtails federal power, Biden administration weakens clean water protections

The Biden administration weakened regulations protecting millions of acres of wetlands Tuesday, saying it had no choice after the Supreme Court sharply limited the federal government’s jurisdiction over them.
The rule would require that wetlands be more clearly connected to other waters like oceans and rivers, a policy shift that departs from a half-century of federal rules governing the nation’s waterways.

Nearly every major conservation group that’s known by readers of this publication includes access to public lands – for hunting, fishing, and otherwise – as a priority. And well they should. The future of these important endeavors depends upon those who partake, and those who partake need places in which to partake. Simple.
