Dog Years: those years best spent

The way I see it, “dog years,” as people typically think about the phrase, doesn’t seem worth much. Upon examination, the computation might be a bit more complicated than the simple idea that one human calendar year equals approximately seven dog years. But what’s the point?
I think about dog years differently. To me, dog years, those spent with a particular dog or dogs, defines periods in our own lives – where we were, what we were doing – generally and specifically – what struggles we faced and, invariably, how that dog, no matter its age, guided us through the worst and the best of times.
