The numbers tell a story, with bigger bass being brought to tournament scales. According to DNR’s data on the 54 fishing tournaments held on the lake in 2022, several largemouth bass over the 6-pound mark were brought to the weigh-in.

I love fishing with different charter captains. It’s an opportunity to share some time on the water and learn a bit of intimate knowledge on how they approach fishing.
I was a guest with Capt. Anthony Ellis of Redemption Sportfishing, running a 31-foot Aqua Sport out of his home port of Olcott. I knew Anthony but had never fished with him before. It turned out to be quite an educational lesson.

A good portion of northern and western New York is in the targeted path of a total solar eclipse that will take place on April 8, 2024. To accommodate an expected influx of travelers hoping to get a peak at the event, New York State Parks intends to open certain locations for camping from April 4-8, 2024.
After April 8, the next total solar eclipse that will be visible from the contiguous U.S. will not be until August, 2044.

The Wisconsin DNR is asking for more citizens’ eyes on the roads in August to help with game bird brood surveys.
DNR Assistant Turkey and Pheasant Ecologist Alissa Kakatsch said monitoring game bird reproduction success is an important part of the DNR’s game bird management program. Last year, the DNR launched a free phone app, Survey123, that allows the public to record and submit observations of broods of turkeys, ruffed grouse, pheasants, and gray partridge during the month of August.
