Proposed project on Kaskaskia River in Illinois concerns waterfowlers, outdoor recreationists

A proposed project on the Kaskaskia River near Baldwin, Ill., has waterfowl hunters and outdoor recreation enthusiasts concerned about the future of a popular wildlife destination.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Kaskaskia Regional Port District hosted an in-person public meeting June 22 to discuss a navigation study for Kaskaskia Regional Port District Terminal 2. The Kaskaskia River Regional Port Small Navigation Project Feasibility Study, authorized through the Corps of Engineers, aims to improve navigational efficiency at Terminal 2. Options being considered include dredging two riverside channels to allow shipping and a barge turning area, a dredge disposal area, and a new dock as a local facility implemented by the port district.

New York hunters react to likely coyote contest ban as legislation awaits governor’s signature

The reaction in the hunting community to legislation passed by both houses which, if signed by Gov. Kathy Hochul, will ban coyote and squirrel hunting contests has hunters frustrated.
The bill, S4099/A2917, passed the Senate just before they exited this year’s legislative session. It was brought to the house floor, and passed, during a recall of the state Assembly on June 21.

Burnett County giant bear ties for Wisconsin’s archery state record

At 6-foot-1 and 315 pounds, Bill Foster is a big man.
An experienced hunter with archery pro shop experience and two Oconto County trophy black bears under his belt, one might think he wouldn’t get rattled while perched 16 feet up a tree overlooking a baited site on private land. But the bear he saw approaching in a Burnett County forest Sept. 8, 2022, had his heart pounding so hard it took him more than a minute to calm his breathing enough to take – and make – a 28-yard shot with his Obsession Turmoil compound.
