Doe tags available in Pennsylvania when license sales start June 26

The check will not be in the mail, and neither will a paper application or a twice-stamped pink envelope. Instead, hunters simply will buy their 2023-24 antlerless deer licenses wherever hunting licenses are sold.
The new process for obtaining antlerless licenses, made possible by a new law that took effect earlier this year, will get underway Monday, June 26 at 8 a.m., when antlerless deer licenses will be available alongside general hunting and furtaker licenses, and other licenses, permits and privileges.

Michigan Natural Resources Commission approves new deer regulations for 2023

The Michigan Natural Resources Commission passed several deer hunting regulations at its meeting here on June 8.
Deer hunting regulations are set on a three-year cycle so the new regulations will be in place through the 2025 hunting seasons.
After much discussion and public comment, the NRC approved the state’s recommendations with minimal change; however, one amendment passed by the commission calls for no use of crossbows in the Upper Peninsula during the late archery season.

Wolves that nearly died out from inbreeding recovered, now helping a remote island’s ecosystem

Gray wolves are thriving at Isle Royale National Park five years after authorities began a last-ditch attempt to prevent the species from dying out on the Lake Superior island chain, scientists said Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the park’s moose population continues a sharp but needed decline. Overpopulation of the lumbering mammals were causing their own starvation as they outstripped available balsam fir trees – their primary food during long, snowbound winters, Michigan Technological University biologists said.

The count was coordinated by the Division of Wildlife, International Crane Foundation, and Ohio Bird Conservation Initiative.
The survey was conducted in 30 pre-selected counties during the crane’s nesting season to monitor Ohio’s growing breeding population of sandhill cranes.
