Minnesota Conservation Federation leader dedicated to keeping the group moving forward

Brad Gausman grew up with the mentality of always leaving something better than he found it. Whether it was his career, his education, or his love for the outdoors, he always wants to improve on the status quo.
Gausman has been the executive director of the Minnesota Conservation Federation for the past three years, and he’s seen the organization grow. Early on in his career, Gausman wasn’t considering conservation, but a desire to learn more about outdoors issues delivered him to the business of natural resources and the Minnesota Conservation Federation.

New York City Department of Environmental Protection eyes fall repairs of Delaware Aqueduct

The final phase of a project to repair an aqueduct system that provides New York City with about half its drinking water is scheduled to begin this fall, meaning the system will be shut down for about eight months.
More than 135,000 acres of land and water within the city’s watersheds are open for recreation, including boating and fishing, hunting and trapping. The good news, according to officials, is the shutdown shouldn’t affect hunting opportunities within the system and should have a limited impact on fishing, although ice anglers will likely encounter some restrictions.

To catch big trout, try fishing at night

Th-thunk.
I felt it down through the rod and to my hand. In the middle of a swift forward cast with a 9-foot, 5-weight rod, I felt the th-thunk when I accidentally hit a bat flying low to the water. Actually it was the bat that hit my rod, I wasn’t aiming for it.
Perhaps the best non-hatch trout fishing book I ever read was Jim Bashline’s “Night Fishing for Trout.” I don’t think Jim ever wrote about dealing with bats but he did list his favorite night flies and one of them was called “The Professor.”
