Optimistic outlook for Minnesota’s spring wild turkey hunt

Despite the difficult and unpredictable winter, turkey biologists still expect a strong 2023 wild turkey-hunting season.
Clayton Lenk, district biologist for the National Wild Turkey Federation, and Tim Lyons, upland game research scientist at the Minnesota DNR, agree that wild turkeys operate on a clock-like pattern regardless of whether there’s snow on the ground or it’s a warm spring.

One fishing guide’s decision: reduced limits for clients on walleyes, crappies

I recently saw a post on social media that a guide associate of mine has decided to reduce fish limits for his customers during the 2023 open-water season. His new policy means dropping the crappie limit to five instead of 10 and reducing the walleye take from six to four. Walleye size restrictions include nothing shorter than 14 inches and nothing kept over 19 1⁄2 inches.

Minnesota DNR reminds public to not prune, cut oaks from April through July

Despite a cool and snowy spring, oak trees will soon be at risk of oak wilt infection. Oak wilt is an invasive fungal disease that kills all of Minnesota’s oak species. Not pruning or cutting oaks from April through July is the easiest way to prevent the spread, according to the Minnesota DNR.
