New York state budget to address gun laws and junior hunting age

Gov. Kathy Hochul’s Fiscal Year 2024 budget offers provisions that, if eventually included when passed, would amend the 2022 Concealed Carry Improvement Act, and would also make permanent what is currently the pilot junior hunting program that allows youths ages 12 and 13 to hunt white-tailed deer with a firearm.

Commentary: Michigan DNR wolf survey numbers are misleading

As members of the Straits Area Sportsmen’s Club, many people have asked us what we thought about the DNR’s recently released 2022 Winter Wolf Survey.
Unfortunately, in our experiences and conversations with men and women who spend a lot of time in the field across the Upper Peninsula, it is tough to believe the DNR report only shows a minimum number of 631 wolves plus or minus 49 across the whole Upper Peninsula.
