Fishing pressure has slipped a little bit across the state as anglers have been dealing with windy conditions and warm temperatures. But there are fish to be found, and here’s where.
The walleye bite on Lake Erie continues to be strong on both the Western and Central Basins with some of the bigger (28-inches and up) coming in the Central Basin off Cleveland.
Clearwater’s largemouth bass population is a definite draw among weekend and tournament anglers alike.
Work lakes that have a larger walleye population in them and key on low-light periods of the day and your odds of hooking more fish increases.
Fishing for most species – bluegills and crappies in particular – remains good across the state.
Fishing for warm-water species like bass and northern pike remains solid, as does the action for deep-water trout and salmon in the Finger Lakes, Lake Ontario and the deeper lakes in the Adirondacks. Walleye fishing
Last winter, Indiana side of Wolf reportedly produced 14 walleyes over six pounds, including one nearly eight pounds. Other fish, especially bass, perch and crappies, also had impressive numbers.
In 2018, 24 fish species were captured in nets. Bluegills were the most abundant (10,931) with an average length of 4.8 inches. The largest went 8.2 inches.
