There are bass, panfish, and pike to be caught.

Most anglers come for the lake’s walleye and largemouth bass fishing opportunities. But also, its northern pike have gotten bigger in recent years, and there are enough keeping-size panfish to make them worth the effort.

An occasional walleye and an abundance of small northern pike round out its fishing options.

Along with its walleyes, a healthy panfish population, largemouth and smallmouth bass, and some quality northern pike get the attention of local anglers.

Sauk’s walleyes are benefiting from what appears to be the perfect scenario.

Round also supports a strong crappie population of both the black and white varieties, surging white bass numbers, along with some bonus northern pike and channel catfish.

Long’s ability to naturally produce walleyes is exceptional – so good, in fact, that the DNR hasn’t stocked the lake with walleyes since 2018.

While walleyes and perch are Pike Bay’s bread and butter, the lake also holds some quality northern pike, a few panfish, fishable tullibee and eelpout populations, along with a few muskies.

There aren’t a lot of lakes that hold good numbers of quality crappies in the Ely area, but Garden Lake does.
