According to Minnesota Waterfowl Migration and Hunting Report, species diversity continues to change as ducks move into and out of the state.

Researchers with the DNR are monitoring about 30 radio-collared black bears across the state, and asked hunters to voluntarily avoid shooting these valuable research subjects. They obliged.

Hunter numbers have declined significantly from earlier this season, according to Minnesota Waterfowl Migration and Hunting Report.

Six of seven animals in a small herd of captive white-tailed deer in Goodhue County died of the disease earlier this month.

Attendees that hunted ranged in age from 14 to 91. Those hunters encountered wet fields that delayed the fall harvest, yet yielded 26 roosters during the morning hunt.

The first three weeks of duck season have been the coldest recorded in at least the last 50 years.

For the first time in the 32-year history of the program, it almost didn’t take place, saved by an 11th-hour agreement between fur buyers and the MDHA for a higher price for hides.

Since the contest’s inception in 1934, only one stamp prominently has featured a canine, and the author believes it’s time to give our hunting companions their due credit once again.
