Nearly 16 years ago on a secluded back road in Adams County, Pa., Wildlife Conservation Officer Dave Grove was shot and killed while investigating a poaching incident.

Timing is everything.
During deer hunting season, that means getting up in the darkness of the early morning hours to be in the woods before sunrise. But if the U.S. Senate passes a proposal to make daylight saving time permanent, awaking in the wee hours of the morning would no longer be necessary. Sure, you would still have to get up before sunrise to get in the woods, but instead of doing so at 5 a.m., an hour later would suffice.

Pennsylvania’s CWD pilot program may give hunters an option

Shortly after Pennsylvania Rep. Brenda Pugh, R-Luzerne County, took office last year, she introduced two bills aimed at addressing concerns about forever chemicals in biosolids.

I usually don’t care too much about what other states do when it comes to hunting and fishing regulations. When it comes to the outdoors, Pennsylvania is so unique – and blessed – that we rarely need to follow the lead of another state. But there are times when we need to pay attention, because there are things that could be done somewhere else that impacts the things we enjoy here. Pennsylvania bill would allow Game Commission to set license fees

In 2020 state legislators entrusted the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission with the ability to set its own license fees.
Now they want to do the same thing with the Pennsylvania Game Commission. House Bill 2690 would mimic what’s in place for Fish & Boat. It would allow the Game Commission to bypass the need for legislative approval to implement a license fee increase.

Tom Venesky: Motives behind some Pennsylvania hunting legislation makes no sense

There have been quite a few legislative proposals regarding hunting recently in Pennsylvania, and a lot of them don’t make sense.
A bill in the House would create a hunting and trapping education program in schools, even though there’s already legislation in place allowing the state Game Commission to hold hunter-ed courses in school facilities. And in the state Senate, a legislator announced his intention to introduce a bill to create a $30, three-day deer hunting license for nonresidents.
