Research looks at most effective ways to spend money designated to fighting aquatic invasive species

Each year for the past seven years, all but a few counties in Minnesota have received shares of a $10 million pot of funding to spend, in a variety of ways, on preventing the spread of aquatic invasive species in Minnesota waters. A research project spearheaded by University of Minnesota graduate student Nichole Angell is attempting to, among other things, determine how those precious AIS dollars are most effectively spent.

Minnesota 13-year-old wins truck he’s too young to drive in huge Brainerd ice fishing tournament

In another twist, the winning walleye wasn’t the only fish that Zac caught during the contest, held from noon to 3 p.m. Earlier in the day he’d landed a tullibee, just over a pound, that, had he not caught the walleye, would’ve put him in 25th place. And for that, he would’ve won an ATV.
“Apparently he was destined to win something that day,” his father said.

Minnesota anglers finding January ice iffy

If you’re able to drive your truck onto good lake ice, consider yourself lucky. There aren’t a lot of opportunities for ice anglers to do so during a winter that’s so far been messed up, to say the least.
