Minnesota DNR says transfer Upper Sioux Agency State Park to ‘rightful owner’

Leadership from the state DNR testified earlier this month in support of bills in both the House and Senate that would turn over Upper Sioux Agency State Park, located in southwestern Minnesota, to the Upper Sioux Community.
The legislation would turn the 1,300-acre state park property over to the tribe, and in subsequent years the DNR would be required to find replacement public property, per federal requirements on funds used to establish the park 60 years ago.

New report offers detailed peek inside Minnesota’s 2022 deer kill

Currently, about 28% of the deer kill in Minnesota occurs in the northwest, and 38% is in the central part of the state, which includes much of the southeast. About 19% of deer taken come from the northeast, with the remainder from the southwest. Just five years ago, the central (and southeast), northeast, and northwest areas each accounted for 29% of the annual deer kill, with the southwest checking in at 13%.

Minnesota bills targeting trapping, lead tackle emerge

The flurry of legislation introduced by state lawmakers continues, recently including bills that would ban certain types of lead fishing tackle – and, eventually, the sale and manufacture of such – and another that could make certain types of trapping mostly ineffective, according to a spokesperson for the Minnesota Trappers Association.
