Battle continues in fight to eliminate Eurasian watermilfoil from Iowa’s Okoboji

Eurasian watermilfoil was discovered on Iowa’s lower Okoboji chain of lakes late in the summer of 2022. With the help of outside organizations in fundraising efforts, the DNR is now working hard to eliminate the invasive plant that can kill off native vegetation that is important for fish and other underwater species.

Spirit Lake North Watershed Project between Iowa, Minnesota shows conservation without borders

In May of 2022, Pheasants Forever Minnesota worked out an agreement with the owners to purchase a 195.5 acre property of farmland that frequently floods.
Conservationists, clean-water groups and lake homeowners in the Iowa Great Lakes Watershed have worked for years to secure this property.

Chickadee-checkoff: A simple way to fund Iowa’s Wildlife Diversity Program

You can help wildlife on the Iowa State Tax form, via Section 9: Tax Credits and Check-off Contributions. There, Iowans can choose to donate a specific dollar amount to the Chickadee Check-off. Each dollar goes directly to Iowa’s Wildlife Diversity Program, which funds vital work for all non-game wildlife in the state.

Two “no pressure” Iowa fishing tournaments set for Feb. 11

Looking for a couple of ice fishing tournament opportunities during the first part of February in northwest Iowa? Both take place on Saturday, Feb. 11. The first will be the fourth annual Camp Autumn Ice Fishing Tournament and Fundraiser at Camp Autumn, a 30-acre private lake located near Sutherland (4233 Yew Avenue, Sutherland).
The second opportunity is the first annual East Okoboji Yellow Bass Beatdown (Hattie Elston State Park boat ramp).
