‘Vortex Nation’ donates over $12,000 to VFW in Stoughton, Wis.

In less than two weeks, Vortex Optics raised over $12,000 for the Stoughton VFW in Stoughton, Wis.
In early May, Vortex sent out a post across the company’s social media pages announcing a limited run of shirts that were available in support of military veterans. Fans of the popular optics company that is based in Wisconsin responded in a big way by buying out the 500 t-shirts that were available.

Johnny Morris, Bass Pro Shops donate more than 40,000 rods and reels in challenge to get more kids fishing

Johnny Morris, angler, conservationist and founder of Bass Pro Shops, is challenging families everywhere to get outside and enjoy the wonders of fishing and the great outdoors this summer with the Gone Fishing event.
To kick off this annual event, Morris and Bass Pro Shops are donating more than 40,000 rods and reels to not-for-profit partners that help kids connect to the great outdoors.

Lake Erie by far produces most Fish Ohio qualifiers

The Ohio DNR (ODNR) Division of Wildlife is touting great numbers of trophy fish caught in Lake Erie in 2024, showcasing the tremendous fishing opportunities in Ohio’s Great Lake. Fish Ohio records from Lake Erie, known as the “Walleye Capital of the World,” show 3,710 catches of trophy fish from 17 different species were submitted in 2024.

Saugeyes stocked into Ohio’s Grand Lake for the first time

The Ohio DNR (ODNR) Division of Wildlife released around 217,000 saugeyes into Grand Lake St. Marys for the first time on May 21. Saugeyes are fast-growing and popular sport fish that are well suited for Ohio’s reservoirs, because they are tolerant of warm and shallow waters, according to the Division of Wildlife.

Minnesota Mixed Bag: CREP applications accepted through June 6

Landowners in 66 Minnesota counties may apply through June 6 for the Minnesota Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program, a conservation easement program administered by the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources.
MN CREP is a voluntary conservation program that permanently protects environmentally-sensitive land in targeted Minnesota counties by leveraging state and federal funds.
