Largemouth bass lead the charge on Cloverleaf chain in east-central Wisconsin

Shawano Lake gets plenty of attention from anglers visiting Shawano County, but there’s another fishery 15 miles away that also offers several species.
The Cloverleaf Lake Chain includes Pine, Grass, and Round lakes just four miles north of Embarrass and 10 miles south of Shawano. Pine is the largest at 217 acres, followed by Grass and Round at 90 and 27 acres, respectively. Grass has the lakes’ deepest spot at 52 feet.

Wisconsin hunter takes ‘bear of a lifetime’ in Rusk County

The right place at the right time.
That’s where Kim Penney found herself on a recent black bear hunt in Rusk County, Wis. The Waupaca resident shot a male bear Sept. 17 – her first bear – that tipped the scale at well over 500 pounds. Penney said she’s glad she passed on a much smaller bear earlier on the same trip.

Field day gives Wisconsin students a crash course on invasive species

Wisconsin’s 15,000 lakes are home to all sorts of critters, but not all are welcome and that’s what hundreds of elementary and middle school students found out during a recent visit to Hartman Creek State Park near Waupaca.
Golden Sands Resource Conservation & Development Council, Inc., offered its annual Conservation Field Day Sept. 26 at the park for fifth- and sixth-graders from throughout Waupaca County.

Wisconsin hunter’s first bear is huge 586-pounder that comes on final day of hunt

Wisconsin’s Teri Jo Fendler may not be a bear-hunting expert, but she’s well aware that the Burnett County black bear she shot Sept. 14 is a once-in-a-lifetime trophy.
Fendler made the four-hour trip from her Wautoma home to Burnett County in September to hunt bears for the first time. After sitting in a ground blind for 13 hours a day for five days, her trip was about to end. Then, Fendler’s luck changed in an instant when a big bear showed up out of nowhere.

It may have new owners, but a Shawano County supper club will retain its outdoors-related vibe.

The Arndts take over a business that has been in Vicki Olson’s family for almost 25 years. The Arndts took over from the Olsons April 1.

Quinney Fishing Club makes a difference on Wisconsin’s Lake Winnebago

While there usually isn’t much going on in Quinney, a small unincorporated community on Lake Winnebago’s east shore, the local fishing club named for the community has more than 200 members and has donated to several groups and agencies that help keep the Winnebago system’s annual sturgeon spearing and ice fishing seasons safe.
“It’s mostly guys who are pretty dedicated fishermen in our area who want to see the lake be used to its full extent.”
