When the winds of change blow on the Great Lakes, water is moved around – having a profound impact on where fish want to be. It was over 40 years ago when I first experienced a unique angling anomaly in Lake Ontario, and it continues to this day. Not too many people know about it, or so it seems. Maybe they want to keep it a “secret.”
When the wind blows out of the east for any length of time in the Western Basin of the lake, it pushes away the warm water. It is replaced with colder water. It scatters fish as they look for their preferred temperature zones.
