Michigan lake sturgeon in focus at production, restoration showcase
The work of raising young lake sturgeon, researching the species and preparing fish for release into Michigan waters will take center stage Sept. 5 when the Michigan DNR opens its Black River streamside rearing facility near Onaway to the public.
The free opportunity will run from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., giving visitors an opportunity to see the facility’s 3- to 4-month-old lake sturgeon and learn how biologists are working to restore one of Michigan’s most unusual fish.
