Beginning hunters will lose access to special antlerless-deer seasons in nine southeastern South Dakota counties this fall as state wildlife officials try to rebuild depleted white-tailed deer populations.
The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (GFP) Commission unanimously approved the one-year closure during its June meeting. This comes after the commission, in May, reduced firearm deer licenses by 1,400 statewide and changed offered archery and muzzleloader licenses from “any deer” to “any buck.”
