Northeast Minnesota whitetails sporting radio collars as part of new study

From now until March 31, researchers in Minnesota are trapping and radio collaring whitetails in and around the Fond du Lac Band of Chippewa reservation. They aim to track deer movement and habits in the vicinity in anticipation of the northeast elk restoration.
The catalyst for the study, says Jacob Haus, associate professor at Bemidji State University and project manager, is capturing data on deer before elk hit the landscape.

Wisconsin DNR researching ways to stem consistent loss of deer hunters

Dr. Daniel Storm and Adam Mohr, DNR research scientists in the Office of Applied Science, briefed the Wisconsin Natural Resources Board at its Jan. 28 meeting, on reasons for concern.

Roger Maes knows he’ll recognize his grandfather’s nearly century-old trophy buck whether it’s in online photo galleries, hanging in a Northwoods tavern, or fully restored and displayed at a giant hunting/fishing store.
But the Madison, Wis., resident hasn’t seen the buck for more than 30 years, not since his grandfather sold it shortly before dying in 1993.

In the 1950s my relationship began, when as a preteen I actually received a letter in the mail. Any piece of mail addressed to me was exciting, but to receive an offer for three issues of Outdoor Life Magazine for 25 cents was tremendous.
