Why is meat from some feral hogs tainted blue?

Above is an example of rodent bait that’s dyed blue. Turns out rodents aren’t the only critters taking the bait. Feral hogs, deer, and bears also have been known to consume it. It’s typically not fatal, but it makes one wonder about consuming a game animal that’s eaten rodent poison. (Photos courtesy of the USFWS and California Department of Fish and Wildlife)

I used to take my two sons to southern Texas during spring break to bowhunt hogs at a high-fence ranch. (I’m not a beach guy; I’d rather hunt.) In three days of hunting, we’d average a total of about three hogs.
