‘Golden shiners’ give new meaning to fishing dedication for Women Anglers of Minnesota

When you hear the words “golden shiners,” you likely think of the baitfish with which you’re trying to catch walleyes in summertime. But for some of the gals who participate in the Women Anglers of Minnesota, golden shiners has a different meaning.
“When women reach a certain age, a lot of times they can feel unseen or invisible, and when we recognized them, they kind of got teary-eyed, and it was a pretty cool moment,” said Michelle Morey, president of WAM.

The Meadowlark Initiative is a statewide strategy that teams landowners, conservation groups, scientists and others to enhance, restore and sustain native grasslands in North Dakota.

Big Birch consists of two basins totaling 1,207 acres, and it’s loaded with an abundance of structure that holds a wide range of fish species. Words such as consistent, productive, and diverse are typically used to describe this west-central Minnesota fishery.

Steve Carney: As summer heats up, bass fishing deserves your attention

Minnesotans are blessed with tremendous largemouth bass-fishing opportunities in the northland, with lakes harboring both good numbers of bass and good-sized fish. And where I live, largemouth bass-fishing pressure is limited.
Here are some thoughts on how I go about choosing a bass-fishing lake.
