Commentary: TRCP opposes sale of public lands in Senate budget reconciliation proposal

The Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership expressed serious concern June 11 with a provision in the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee’s reconciliation proposal that would mandate the sale of public lands in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming under the pretense of affordable housing.
“Hunters and anglers have made it clear that reconciliation is not the appropriate vehicle for public land sales,” said Joel Pedersen, president and CEO of the TRCP.

Minnesota conservation groups seeking improved feedlot rules with water quality, fish habitat at stake

State conservation and environmental groups, including Minnesota Trout Unlimited, the Izaak Walton League, and the Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy, are urging the public to comment on new state feedlot rulemaking that could overhaul how livestock manure is stored and spread on Minnesota agricultural lands.
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is collecting public input to update the state’s feedlot rules for the first time in 25 years.

Testing for CWD will expand in Minnesota in 2025; ban on feeding deer, too

Last week, the Minnesota DNR added eight additional counties to a deer feeding and attractant ban, bringing the total of where the ban is in effect to 32 counties. It’s in those new areas, too, where deer hunters can expect mandatory whitetail testing for chronic wasting disease come the firearms opening weekend this fall.
“The feeding and attractant ban is one tool to reduce unnatural congregating of deer and lower the risk of CWD spread,” said Paul Burr, acting DNR big-game program coordinator in an agency news release. “We use this tool where it provides the greatest benefit to the health of Minnesota’s white-tailed deer.”

Pro Fishing Tip of the Week: Mix up your presentations for walleye catching

Summer walleye fishing is creeping up on us, but with the prolonged cooler weather earlier this spring in Minnesota, there seems to be a delay in completing a true summer transition.
Shiner and jigs are still putting plenty of walleyes in the boat, but there are other presentations that are doing equally well.
