New York Mixed Bag: Delaware River Tailwaters Joint Management Plan meeting to be held February 25

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) will hold a virtual public information session on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 6 p.m. to inform New Yorkers about the new Delaware River Tailwaters Joint Trout Management Plan, designed in partnership with the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.

New York’s Earlville Conservation Club honors big buck contest winners

The Earlville Conservation Club, in Madison County, N.Y., once again held its annual big buck contest dinner, at the Sherburne American Legion Family Post 876. The evening featured awards to a number of successful deer hunters taking mature whitetail bucks who had entered the club’s annual Big Buck Contest.

New York’s Jacob Slusarz wins Lancaster Archery Classic

A New York archer has prevailed in yet another big archery tournament, this time winning the 2025 Lancaster Archery Classic, held Jan. 23-26 and an event that is billed as the largest indoor archery tournament on the East Coast.
Jacob Slusarz, of Voorheesville, in Albany won the event’s Open-Pro crown, one of 13 classes in the program, and took home $20,000 for his efforts.

Dan Ladd: Is there any good news for New York gun owners?

There’s been some hope coming down the pike lately for New York gun owners, mostly because of two recent developments at the national level. First is the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, introduced into Congress last month that would regulate the carry or possession of concealed firearms across state lines.
And most recently is President Trump’s order to the attorney general to assess a number of regulations and policies the Biden administration imposed on firearms. That all sounds like good news, but then again, we live in New York.

Big Butternut Lake in Wisconsin’s Polk County earns its reputation as a walleye stop

The local DNR fisheries team surveyed Big Butternut Lake to assess the fishery during 2022 with early spring fyke netting, early spring and late spring night electrofishing runs, and a fall night electrofishing run.
Recent management efforts have focused on walleye stocking, limiting harvest of adult walleyes, and liberalizing harvest of largemouth bass through regulation changes.
