Foam Fest 3D archery shoot with the “Okayest Hunter” crew coming to Horicon, Wis., on Aug. 31

Archers can get ready for the upcoming bowhunting season and benefit conservation in the process at an event coming up in Wisconsin this weekend. 
The Foam Fest 3D archery event will run from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31, at Horicon Marsh Archers in Horicon, Wis. Foam Fest is in its third year of existence and is managed by the Okayest Hunter crew. The Okayest Hunters describe themselves as “just a couple of average hunters.”

Minnesota DNR ramps up elk planning, research; public meeting set for Sept. 10 in Thief River Falls

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resource announced on Monday that the agency is holding an in-person meeting on northwest elk management on Sept. 10 to begin work on developing a legislatively directed plan to enhance the size and range of Minnesota’s elk population and provide increased recreational opportunities while maintaining a healthy, sustainable elk population going forward.
“Elk are important to a lot of Minnesotans for many different reasons,” said Kelsie LaSharr, Minnesota DNR elk coordinator. “At this meeting, we look forward to providing an update on elk management and an upcoming research project.”

Michigan Natural Resources Commission considers tweaks to trout and salmon regulations

The Michigan Natural Resources Commission is considering several relatively minor changes to trout and salmon regulations, as well as rules for handling reptiles and amphibians.
Four fisheries orders presented to the NRC in August for approval in September are primarily focused on ironing out issues with trout and salmon regulations on specific streams, and making it easier for homeowners to relocate reptiles and amphibians.

Pennsylvania man catches rare Atlantic salmon in Lake Erie

A Pennsylvania angler boated the fish of a lifetime July 28 when he reeled in an Atlantic salmon on Lake Erie.
Colton Alex, 18, caught the 10.4-pound, 30-inch salmon while fishing in the Erie PA Sport Fishing Association Summer Slam walleye and steelhead tournament. The salmon hit on a black, orange and white Rambler Dreamweaver Super Spoon on a dipsy diver on the starboard side of charter captain Joe Nemet’s boat, which was trolling at 3 mph over 100 feet of water.
