Michigan Natural Resources Commission gets backlash on does-only reg for special hunts

A backlash over changes to hunts created for disabled hunters is having an effect on the minds of Michigan Natural Resources Commission members who supported for the proposal.
The NRC at its July 11 meeting voted 4-3 to restrict youth and disabled firearms hunts to antlerless deer only. Proponents of both user groups made their thoughts known to NRC members since the meeting, with backers of disabled hunters apparently leaving a big impression.

Excellent fishing in southeast Michigan helps generate big economic impact

Where’s the best fishing in Michigan? If you ask Jim Francis, the Lake Erie Basin Coordinator with the Department of Natural Resources, he’ll tell you point blank it’s in his watershed.
“I may be prejudiced,” said Francis, who recently made a presentation to the Natural Resources Commission’s fisheries subcommittee. “I grew up here and I live here and I work here. But we’ve got good water quality, good habitat, good management, and good fishing.”
And he has plenty of data to back up his assertion.

Olympian and member of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU), Sgt. Alison Weisz, 29, had a powerful showing at the 2024 National Smallbore and Air Rifle Championships, part of the annual National Matches schedule, claiming overall wins in both the three-position smallbore and 60-shot air rifle competitions offered during the phase.
