Four old-school waterfowling tactics that can work for you this fall

Waterfowl hunters are nothing if not resourceful.
They might be the most resourceful of all hunters. They feel right at home deploying any trick in the waterfowl-hunting book that gets results – that is, whistling, cupped wings into shooting range.
The best waterfowl hunters are those who take pleasure in the details. In waterfowling, small details matter, whether you’re setting decoys, concealing yourself in a blind, blowing your call, or shooting your shotgun.

New West Virginia channel catfish record gets public pushback after coming from private pond

Forget the high-end tackle.
A West Virginia man landed a state record channel catfish in his home state July 21 on his 3-year-old daughter’s $9.99 pink Zebco rod. Tyler Rutherford was fishing with his daughter for bluegills at his father’s pond in South Charleston when he reeled in the 43.51-inch-long, 46.70-pound behemoth – beating the previous record by more than 9 pounds.

Ryan Rothstein: A method to the madness when it comes to trail cameras

Right now, my strategy is to home in on a buck that I’d like to chase this season. Although I have several bucks I know made it through last winter, they’ve been MIA for the most part this year. Jeremiah Haas: Some trail cam tricks for preseason preparation

September is right around the corner and if you have not put the trail cameras out yet, you will likely be doing so really soon.
While it is simple to put them on the same trees pointing out into the field each year, if you have put the time and expense into the program, you may as well try to optimize your process to truly understand what is out there.

Christine Thomas: A kayak and a camera makes for a loony combination

When I last left my dear readers, I had kayaked into a muskie hunt and witnessed the landing of a spectacular muskie by Brandon Leinon, of Osseo. It was a wonderful kickoff to one of the goals of my weekend at the Hayward-area home of dear friends, Tom and Kris Dew.
I was hoping to get a chance to take some photos while kayaking with my new Sony a6700 camera. Some of you followed my camera quest this spring and may also have followed my pedal kayak quest the year before.
