Waupaca, Wis., learn-to-hunt event still going strong after more than 20 years

“Our group will take anybody who has never hunted turkeys from the age of 10 to 100. It doesn’t matter. Our oldest participant I think was 80,” said Dave Stelzner, a mentor in the program.

“Seeing the look on the face, the excitement, is a thrill,” he said. “When I take somebody out and they have success, it’s the same success as if it was me doing it myself. A kid asked me yesterday why we teach this. It’s not just the sport.
