Stephen Smith, the new executive director of the Pennsylvania Game Commission, was an attorney in private practice when Pennsylvania’s so-called deer wars inspired him to rethink his career.
As an avid hunter – and with an undergraduate degree in political science – Smith felt deeply affected by the agency’s radical new deer management plan and wanted to play a part in advocating and defending what it represented – a science-based approach to wildlife management.
