Snowy winter days are prime time for cottontails

Small game hunters across Pennsylvania have just a few more days to enjoy the final spoils of February’s waning hunting season. Whenever the skies open and provide a gift of fresh snowfall, conditions for success improve — especially on those calm, sunny mornings when cottontails can’t resist coming out to explore a landscape full of white after a recent snow.

Even with today’s technology, having map and compass skills an important trait

Pennsylvania Stepping Stones program is seeking young anglers, mentors interested in fly fishing

It’s a casting call of sorts for young anglers and seasoned mentors.
Both are being sought to take part in Stepping Stones, a program sponsored by the Wildlife Leadership Academy and the Pennsylvania Fly Fishing Association to introduce teens to fishing and conservation. A three-day program will be held May 10-12 at Camp Krisland in Madisonburg, Centre County. The deadline for student applications is Feb. 28.

Ohioan Dan Armitage pens book teaching kids on fishing basics

Dan Armitage’s father, while a professor at Ohio State University, penned a Spanish textbook that the elder Armitage used in the classroom for years.
So, it was always in the back of his mind that Dan, a freelance outdoor writer, might someday write his own book. That time has come with the anticipated March 12 publication of Let’s Learn to Fish!, a kids book on the art of getting started in the angling game.
