The Minnesota DNR and state Board of Animal Health implemented several changes in cervidae farm management in 2023 after the state Legislature passed several new laws that altered oversight and regulations for certain farms.
Mike Oehler, DNR farmed deer and captive species coordinator, and Dr. Heather Damico, BAH senior veterinarian overseeing the farmed cervidae program, believe that changes from the 2023 legislative session will lead to fewer deer farms and farmed animals heading into 2024.
