Three shot during firearms deer season in Pennsylvania; no fatalities

Three hunting-related shootings occurred in the statewide firearms season that ended Dec. 9, according to the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
The most recent happened in Bradford County Dec. 6 when a loaded firearm in a vehicle discharged causing shrapnel from the bullet to strike a backseat passenger, who was then transported to a hospital for treatment, said commission spokesman Travis Lau.

Ohio’s deer gun season results in few incidents, no fatalities in ’23

The recent deer-gun season that ran Nov. 27 to Dec. 3 saw a handful of property damage accidents and only one personal injury accident – making it one of the safest seasons in recent years.
“That’s not many (accidents) compared to the number of hunters (about 400,000) in the field,” said Kandy Klosterman, law enforcement administrator for the DOW.

Iowa DNR encourages hunters to discuss hunting plan, safety after 2023 incidents

The opening weekend of Iowa’s second gun deer season saw another 50,000-plus hunters enjoying time in the timber in pursuit of whitetails. Unfortunately, there were three hunting incidents that serve as a reminder for hunters to review safety measures before heading out.
Two separate incidents involved the same issue — shooting at running deer — where deer were running between two hunters and one hunter was struck by a wayward shot from another in their party. The other incident involved a self-inflicted injury due to carelessly handling a firearm and lack of muzzle control.
