Ohio’s deer gun season results in few incidents, no fatalities in ’23

The single injury accident during deer-gun week in Ohio occurred on Nov. 27 in Athens County when a hunter dropped his gun while exiting a tree stand and it fired, sending a slug into his leg. The hunter survived. (Stock photo)

The recent deer-gun season that ran Nov. 27 to Dec. 3 saw a handful of property damage accidents and only one personal injury accident – making it one of the safest seasons in recent years.
“That’s not many (accidents) compared to the number of hunters (about 400,000) in the field,” said Kandy Klosterman, law enforcement administrator for the DOW.
