Rend Lake in Illinois hosts 3D archery national championship

Rend Lake was filled to the brim with all things archery during the 11th annual Scholastic 3D Archery (S3DA) Eastern 3D National Championship, held at the North Marcum Multiple Resource Area.
Nearly 700 youth archers representing 118 teams across 18 states descended on Rend Lake, hoping to be crowned a “National Champion” in their division and class.

Before the 1870s, in Illinois, market men – men who hunted for profit – exercised free reign over state natural resources deemed wildlife.

Despite economic downturns and social upheavals, Illinois’ fertile fields, ample transportation systems, and geographic proximity to two of the nation’s top five population centers (Chicago and St. Louis) all but guaranteed the state’s continued growth. Hybrid crappies making progress at Citizens Lake in Illinois’ Warren County

An experiment to see how a blacknose and white crappie hybrid species would fare in the somewhat cozy Citizens Lake appears to be going well, according to DNR’s report on the Fall 2022 sampling of the body of water.
During that October effort, a total of 25 hybrid crappies were collected, ranging from 7½ to 13 inches in length.

New York Kayak Bass Fishing back to one tournament trail after experimenting with two in 2022

Kayak bass fishing just keeps growing in New York and no one knows that better than Justin Hausner, president of New York Kayak Bass Fishing. After splitting off into two tournament trails in 2022 – NYKBF, one of six kayak bass tournament trails in the state – is back to one trail and Hausner said he feels it was the right decision.
“We’re seeing a huge increase in competitors this year, which is great to see,” Hausner said. “It’s great to see the growth returning. People are coming back, which is nice.”
