The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) has confirmed chronic wasting disease (CWD) in one white-tailed deer from a farmed cervid facility in Newaygo County. The infected four-and-a-half-year-old deer was discovered through routine testing as part of the state’s CWD surveillance program for farmed deer.
To date, no free-ranging white-tailed deer have tested positive for CWD in Newaygo County.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota DNR are investigating an accidental shooting in Baytown Township, Minnesota, on Wednesday, May 3, according to a press release from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. The shooting left one man with non-life-threatening injuries.

Grand Marais, Minn. resident and journalist Joe Friedrichs came across a scene that one does not often get to witness in the wild near the Cascade River on Minnesota’s North Shore when he took a video of a wolf working to pull a dead deer up a steep drainage off a road.
The deer had likely been hit by a vehicle on Highway 61 before being discovered by the wolf, as there was a large pool of blood near the edge of the roadway.
