Michigan Lake Profile – Cedar Lake, Leelanau County
It’s one of those inland lakes that attracts a fair number of anglers looking to tangle with a lunker bass, a hungry trout, a slab panfish, or a feisty northern pike.

It’s one of those inland lakes that attracts a fair number of anglers looking to tangle with a lunker bass, a hungry trout, a slab panfish, or a feisty northern pike.

When it comes to ice fishing, however, there is no shortage of hard-water options here in the Empire State, all destinations that are well-managed and easily accessed.

Crappies and bluegills draw some attention on the lake. These are by no means trophy-caliber panfish, but there always seems to be a healthy supply of respectable, eating-size fish to catch.

According to DNR biologists, over one-third of the bass here are bigger than 15 inches.

From an angling standpoint, the lake’s large size should not be intimidating. In fact, it’s a bonus, because the majority of Shetek’s watery acres seem to hold fish.

One angler does not need to take more than five bluegills home on any one day.

Between 2018 and 2019 a total of 24 ‘gills meeting Master Angler requirements (10 inches or larger) were registered by anglers fishing in Otsego. All the ‘gills were between 10 and 11.5 inches long.

At an average depth of just 8 feet, Veto Lake is quick to turn turbid and slow to clear up. But, that’s not all bad for the angler who’s looking to catch some catfish and

You will catch plenty of walleyes from Pokegama, too. They come in a wide range of sizes, and the potential for trophy-caliber fish exists.
