On Erie, walleye populations remain near the all-time high, with trawling indicating that recruitment continues to be very strong.

The ice fishing season is off to a good start in parts of the Upper Peninsula and some of the shallower lakes in the northern Lower Peninsula.

The decision comes at a time when the Michigan DNR is implementing new measures to balance the walleye and yellow perch predator-prey relationship. For the complete story, click here.

A few boaters are still getting out on lakes Erie and St. Clair and on Saginaw Bay and catching good numbers of walleyes and perch.

Fishing pressure has been light, but for the few die-hards still getting out some of the best fishing of the year has been happening.

The few anglers still getting out are finding a very good perch bite in Lake St. Clair and Lake Huron’s Saginaw Bay.

The hot bite has been for perch in Lake St. Clair, Saginaw Bay, Lake Huron at the Les Cheneaux Islands, and in Big Bay de Noc, to name a few.

Inland lakes are producing good panfish and bass action.

Salmon runs peaking in Lower Peninsula.
