Tucked inside a wooded area with plenty of trees on its shoreline, Sara boasts enough largemouth bass, crappies, bluegills, channel catfish and walleyes to keep fishermen satisfied.

Still, largemouth bass fishing is king at Ramsey Lake.

The crappies tend to hold in the 5- to 7-foot range of water, moving shallower to spawn.

Still, catfish seem to be the species drawing anglers to Carlyle Lake, the largest man-made lake in the state.

It has a nice largemouth bass population because it’s a backwater of the Des Plaines River.

Saugeyes are getting special attention in Carlton.

Largemouth bass densities had been high due to abundant vegetation for nursery habitat.

Although most bass are generally 9 to 13 inches in length, it is not unusual for bass in the 5- to 10-pound range to show up.
