Allegheny River – The water was on fire with crappies from the Highland Park dam to Pine Creek, in late April. Nice smallmouths, saugers, walleyes, and white bass are being released. Ohio River – Dan

ALEXANDRIA AREA The shallow bays on most small lakes started producing crappies. The afternoon hours have been best – once the water warms. Look for small jigs tipped with minnows or waxworms to work best.

Northeastern Lower

Houghton Lake Area Windy weather has kept many anglers from fishing on Houghton Lake. For those who are getting out, walleye fishing has been good along the first weedline Crawlers and cranks are both working.

Northcentral Region

St. Joseph Area Salmon fishing is heating up in southern Lake Michigan. Anglers fishing out of St. Joseph report catching cohos and a few browns in 20 to 40 feet of water. Crankbaits fished behind

Anglers trolling the Kewaunee County portions of Lake Michigan did fairly well on brown trout out of Kewaunee. The Algoma boat launch is opened and anglers going out of that port reported fairly good results,

Illinois River: At Starved Rock, sauger weighing more than 4 pounds are being caught. White bass fishing still is good. Walleye active up and down area, especially at the 178 and Interstate 39 bridges. At

The walleye bite is still going strong. Limits of eaters are common, and there are some big fish being released, as well. Look for walleyes to be up in 2 to 5 feet of water.
