Here’s how to test your luck on long-shot moose, elk lotteries in eastern states

You don’t need to head West to hunt the majestic elk, or to Alaska, the Yukon or Newfoundland to put your tag on a moose. With a little luck – well, maybe a lot of luck – you can draw a permit through popular lotteries in Pennsylvania and Kentucky for elk, and in three New England states (Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont) for moose.
It happens every year: nonresident hunters scoring a permit through the lottery systems in each state.

Avoid these 8 costly mistakes in the spring turkey woods this season

Spring gobbler hunters often celebrate success with a lot of hooting, hollering and high-fiving, but also with a big exhale and a sigh of relief. Sometimes overlooked, New York’s Doodletown WMA worth a look

That may be the case with the Doodletown Wildlife Management Area in Columbia County.

Take a kid into the turkey woods this spring and get the most out of the hunt

Some of my most memorable spring gobbler hunts occurred when I didn’t even have a shotgun in my hands. There’s no better feeling than taking a youngster or a non-hunting adult afield and introducing them to our obsession. And if they’re fortunate enough to harvest a bird, it’s even better. Too, watching the hunt through their eyes may even re-energize your passion for spring gobbler hunting.
