Ohio DNR biologist encouraged with recent poult success heading into turkey season

New this year, hunters may only harvest one male turkey per spring season, per hunter. That’s a change from the previous bag limit of two birds per hunter, per season. This change was proposed by the ODNR Division of Wildlife and approved by the Ohio Wildlife Council.
Mark Wiley, a Division of Wildlife biologist in charge of the state’s turkey program, says he is encouraged heading into the season after coming off of two consecutive good poult years.

Unique rabbit hunt put on by Ohio restaurant features field to fork experience

Paul Gross, owner of the Butcher Block restaurant in London, Ohio, had no idea how his business’ first annual rabbit hunt would be received.
The restauranteur put out a call to the community to gauge interest in a rabbit hunt. To his pleasant surprise, they responded to the tune of 54 hunters, who on Feb. 25 brought home 85 rabbits for the stew pot.

Ohio hunter connects on a second chance at 20-point buck in Shelby County

Justin Wagner is almost certain that the massive buck he harvested in late 2022 was first the victim of one of his crossbow bolts a year earlier.
Wagner, of Botkins, killed a 220-inch non-typical buck last November on his parent’s farm in Shelby County. The buck has 22 scoreable points, although there are an actual 26 points on the buck “that you could hang a ring over,” Wagner said. In fact, Wagner’s kids refer to the buck as “26.”

It’s tough to sell the deer hunting public on harvesting more antlerless deer when all they see is antlers in one form or another.
