New York’s Saratoga Sand Plains WMA is Northern Zone hunting with a Southern Zone feel

Saratoga County, in eastern New York, is roughly 844 square miles in size. About half of the county’s acreage lies in the Northern Zone, and half of that is within the Blue Line boundary of the Adirondack Park.
But outside the Adirondacks are a handful of sporadic, but sizable public land tracts that are located quite close to the Northern/Southern Zone boundary line, which stretches west from Schuylerville along Route 29 and onward. The further south you are in this area, the more these lands take on a small forest, or even Southern Zone (minus the agriculture) feel. Among them is the Saratoga Sand Plains Wildlife Management Area, which is a 1,000 acre mosaic of public land chunks of various sizes with other municipal lands nearby.
