The Illinois dove season, which opens Sept. 1, is traditionally considered the beginning of the fall hunting season, although avid squirrel hunters may argue. Either way, for many hunters, it is time to get out and enjoy the fields, attempting to put bacon-wrapped dove nuggets in our stomach.
While a lot of people hunt on private land, this is one of the few seasons where a sizable portion of the hunts occur on state lands.
