Examining Wisconsin’s fish trains and the era of ‘badger’ cars

In the second half of the 19th century, market hunting was decimating the nation’s wildlife resources. In Wisconsin, deer, bear, ducks, geese, quail, prairie chickens, passenger pigeons and other animals that could be sold for meat, feathers or hides were pursued relentlessly using methods developed to kill high numbers at the lowest possible cost.
