Over the summer, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and The Nature Conservancy announced a pair of conservation easements they had agreed upon pertaining to 14,600 acres in the Adirondacks.
One easement opened up nearly 6,000 acres and several miles of shoreline along the Raquette River that was previously off limits to the public. It is now available for outdoor recreation, including hunting, fishing and trapping. The other created a unique research preserve around Follensby Pond.
