A little over three-quarters of the campsites in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area have reopened since closures began in early July, when lightning strikes caused multiple fires throughout the region.
As of Aug. 14, 1,600 of the 2,000 campsites had reopened, accounting for 73% of the BWCAW area being safely accessible for visitors to the region, according to a statement from Superior National Forest officials.
